Shin Splints

Call Now 02 6293 2024

At Brindabella Podiatry we regularly assess and treat people with shin pain.

shin-splintsShin pain generally has three main causes:

  • Medial tibial stress syndrome (shin splints)
  • Stress fracture
  • Compartment syndrome

Each podiatrist is trained in Podiatric Medicine and Gait Analysis. Patient history, palpation and walking/running assessments will be used to determine a diagnosis. If further imaging such as MRI, X-Ray or Ultrasound are required, your podiatrist can directly refer for this. Your podiatrist will then implement a plan to get your pain under control and get you back exercising again as quickly as possible.

Your treatment plan may include some of the following options: rest, ice, specialised orthotics to correct your foot posture or take strain off inflamed or injured structures, footwear recommendations, InterX therapy, Shock Wave Therapy, dry needling, special off loading boots, exercises, anti-inflammatory therapy and gait re-training.

We have the most recent 3D foot imaging laser scanner and computerised pressure plate system which we use to help accurately assess conditions and make orthotics when required. Our appointments and orthotics can be claimed on the spot from your Health Fund and no referral is necessary.

If you are concerned about shin pain or have reduced your activity due to lower leg pain, book a biomechanical assessment today. Ph: 62932024.
